The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California permatemp scandal is unique.

Dozens of Chief Engineers retired from MWD/Calpers with retirement income in excess of $100,000 a year.

Then, they went back to MWD working as temps for rates of $100 to $150 an hour.

Dozens of retired MWD engineers were making $300,000 to $400,000 a year as permatemps, some for up to 10 years.

Some even started their own temp agencies for work at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD).

One retired MWD Chief Engineer joined forces with the lead cost engineer of a consulting firm working on a 4.5 billion dollar MWD project to help start-up a temp agency. The retired MWD Chief Engineer was the first employee of this new temp agency.
